What I’m Looking For
I am accepting queries for completed manuscripts with lengths between 50,000 and 150,000 words in the genres of Romance and Women’s Fiction. I am interested in authors who are on board to grow their careers by shipping multiple novels in one genre over the next few years.
My Wishlist
Romance (sweet only)
- Series featuring one character from each family or some other interconnected storylines, or one book with potential for future books
- Fast-paced romance with a humorous edge (Things We Never Got Over)
- Tropes featured on the Amazon category search bar (for example enemies to lovers, holidays, love triangle, romantic comedy, small town romance, time travel, workplace romance, also romantic heroes like bikers, doctors, wealthy–you can go on Amazon and search categories to see for yourself).
Women’s Fiction
- Comedy featuring mothers (Class Mom series, Where’d You Go Bernadette)
- Romcom books / escapism (Book Lovers)
- Book club books (Carrie Soto is Back, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Vanishing Half, City of Girls)
- Adaptations (How to Align the Stars)
- Cozy reads in a small town (Debbie Macomber)
- Dramatic storylines with a love/relationship focus (It Ends with Us)
I am open to bittersweet stories as well as feel-good content. In general, it needs to have a good concept and an interesting set of characters that I want to read more about, as well as a clear inciting incident and storyline that moves the book along. For romance, I prefer sweet (closed-door) or warm (just a few steamy scenes).
Here are some things I am NOT looking for: suspense, thriller, science fiction, fantasy, young adult, true life stories, biographies, based on a true story, paranormal, or erotica.
I’m also in search of short poetry books (minimum of 70 poems), ideally that tell a story in three parts, relating to love, relationships, motherhood, nature, or other topical-themed collections of poems. I like Sad Birds Still Sing by Faraway. I’m looking for authors who want to publish multiple poetry books and create and maintain a social media presence.
How to submit
Email a query letter to EgretLakeSubmissions at gmail with the following information included. Do NOT attach content, all text must be inline in the email. Submissions must be previously unpublished, original works.
Email Subject: GENRE – MANUSCRIPT TITLE – AUTHOR NAME – TODAY’S DATE

- Short Summary (should read like back of book summary)
- Short Biography
- Contact Information
Please also include:
- Paste the first twenty pages of your manuscript into the body of the email.
- Is this your first novel? If so, have you published writing in any other form, and if so what?
- If you are working on a second book or plan to, please include a two-line pitch of other book ideas in your query letter and let me know what stage of writing they are in (concept, in progress, editing, or finished manuscript).
